Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Conference
Yavapai Child Care Coalition Event
(Chino Valley, Arizona) – Saturday October 1, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Yavapai Child Care Coalition will host an Emergency and Disaster Preparedness Conference for all Child Care Providers and families of children age birth to five in Yavapai County.
“Breakout sessions will be offered to Child Care professionals, parents of children 0-5” said Janis Burger, Child Care Health Consultant of Yavapai County Community Health Services. "The purpose of the workshops is to give parents and professionals practical, hands-on procedures to assist in emergency situations. Participants will also learn what resources are available to them in the County.”
The conference will include Keynote Speaker a nationally recognized Marty Caldwell, an Emergency Services Consultant with over 40 years experience in all areas of emergency services operations. Marty has developed programs for NASA, the Department of Defense, Colleges and Emergency Services Agencies across the United States.
There will be opportunities to attend sessions throughout the day on topics such as Behavior management, Bullying, Why time out doesn’t work, and a Food Handler’s Certification course. The fall conference is sponsored by First Things First. Approved by Arizona voters, First Things First works to expand and enhance early childhood development and health services for all children ages birth through five in Arizona.
A panel discussion will offer resources to help Directors, providers, staff and parents have a plan in place for an emergency situation and help children cope with disaster. Providing their professional expertise will be Brian Supalla, Manager of Public Health Protection for Yavapai County Community Health Services, Jason McWhorter, SSG with the Arizona National Guard, and Bruce McWhorter, retired Chief Warrant Officer for the Army.
RSVPs are required for the conference, which will be held Saturday, October 1, at the Windy Valley Plaza, 2235 S. State Route 89 in Chino Valley. The cost is $10.00 which includes a catered breakfast and lunch by Gabby’s Kitchen. Child Care will not be available during this conference.
