SOUTH PIMA REGIONAL PARTNERSHIP COUNCIL
The South Pima region encompasses a large area that includes some of south and southeastern Tucson, the communities of Vail, Corona de Tucson, Three Points/Robles Junction, Sahuarita, Green Valley, Amado, Arivaca, Sasabe, and Ajo.
The South Pima region borders Cochise County to the east, Santa Cruz County to the south, Yuma County to the west and Maricopa to the northwest. The communities of Ajo, Lukeville, and Why are uniquely situated in the region since the Tohono O’odham Nation divides Ajo from the other South Pima communities.
There are approximately 21,936 children ages birth to 5 residing in South Pima. The majority of these children live within the 85706 ZIP code – more commonly known as the Sunnyside School District area.
South Pima received $5,514,674 in First Things First funding for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2011 and ending June 30, 2012.
This funding supports services that target our highest priority needs for children birth to 5: more high quality early education settings; programs that provide families with the tools they need to support their child’s development; programs that address oral health, and programs that help families eligible for public health insurance to enroll and maintain their enrollment.
Serving each community’s distinct needs is a major goal of First Things First—reaching out to children and families in ways that will best offer support so that all Arizona children can start school ready to learn, be successful and reach their full potential.
